Just wondered which books people have found helpful in their journeys towards healing.
I go through phases when the need for literary support is paramount. I guess it's something to do with knowing I'm not alone, desperately wanting to know that what I am feeling is ok, and 'answers' though I suppose I really know there aren't any of those otherwise we would have found them all long ago......
One of my favourite books has to be 'Strong at the Broken Places' by Linda Sandford. I've read it and re-read it recently. She could have been talking about me.
When I first disclosed I read the Survivors 'Bible' - The Courage to Heal - Ellen Bass and Laura Davies and that was helpful. I was still in a state of shock then at having disclosed and how the disclosure permeated every area of my life. It helped me in the very early days.
And 'Proud to be Me' has been informative and helpful too. Thanks Jamie for all your wisdom and knowledge.
I'll end with one of my favourite quotes taken from Farewell To Arms - Ernest Hemingway.
'The world breaks everyone and afterwards some are strong at the broken places'.
I just picked up I Can't Get Over It: A Handbook For Trauma Survivors, by Aphrodite Matsakis. I find that most books only cover a part of th issues I'm faced with. This one handles a variety of things and helps to cut down on the backround noise of every day frustrations so you can focus on the big things that interfere with life.
Please please please use our online bookstore to buy or search for your books - that way we get a percentage of the money - HAVOCA sadly doesn't pay for itself - so dig deep and buy some books! or make a donation!
By the way, I forgot to mention, you should use the online bookstore at HAVOCA for fast and easy service! A percentage of the sale goes to a worthy cause!
