I am sorry to be a pain but I read this earlier and got into a bit of a state what does this mean. I am not good with change and feel scared what happens to what we have posted why break something that dont need mending
Don't worry I expected this reaction from some of us.
I know change isn't always an easy thing to deal with - but the new forum is awesome. I'll keep this one running for a bit longer - when the new one arrives you'll see the difference immediately.
Don't worry the change over will be very easy - you'll just have to register one more time and then that's it - it will never be changed again.
Amanda please dont worry to much we are trying to do all we can to make this run as smooth as we can, jamie is right its better to make this one change and never move again than loads of small changes. The new forums are packed with new features, clear and easy to use. There should also be many more new members. Please give us a chance, if i didnt think this would benfit you all then i wouldnt have done it. xxxxx
ok this has also unnerved me on reading this post, especially the comments about 'joining before the rush' and that there should be 'lots more members'. I think this is because i have begun to trust the people on this forum and the thought of sharing with a sudden increase in people is frightening. that may sound silly.
Questions:
When is this likely to happen?
Is it combining two existing forums?
What will happen to our existing posts and messages?
Do we still access it through the HAVOCA main page?
NO, bpdworld deals with mental health issues and we have lots of forums, the idea of creating an abuse forum is so that some of my members that have been abused have some where to go to talk of these issues. As you may know many people that have been abused to go on to suffer from ill mental health.
What will happen to our existing posts and messages?
I think Jamie is going to keep all these on the link they are on now. So you can always re-visit them. I know this is probally the main probelm about the move BUT its better to move now when there arnt to many messages like 1000's or something. When bpdworld first started out we had some very basic forums and we had to move three times before them could accomadate the amount of messages that were being posted. i do relaise that this is a pain at the begging but once we are moved across then it should all calm down.
Do we still access it through the HAVOCA main page?
i dont understand , do you mean the old forums or the new? the new and old forums link will be on the front page for a while but then one day the old link will go, but you can of course save the link to the old forums to reflect upon.
If it was possible to move all your messages over would that make things easier? because once you have joined you can always just copy and paste what you have already wrote to the new board, if you like i could always help you with this to? Its totally up to you. Please belive me when i say we are not trying to drive you all mad but provide the best services we can. The new forums are really great.
There will be more members but as every forums and organisation everything grows so that we can support as many people as possible. There will be a lot more moderators so that things remain safe and any problems (if any) will be dealth with immediately)
thanks for prompt reply, just having a little wobbly there! Just one more question, if the new forum is up and running now does that mean that people could be posting on either one and that we would have to go between the two for a while?
just been to the new forum, its certainly different.
i would suggest for people that are concerned that they go for a look round, because going when they have to, without checking it out will be a big shock to some. yes its good, but it is different and for alot here that struggle with various issues of trust etc it really would help to get used to it a bit before it has to be used.
Thanks for all the posts and questions. Josh is right - feedback is greatly received. I know a lot of us in here, me included, don't like change. It's understandable to get attached to a certain way of doing things and then resist moving onto better things.
The new forum is better. It is just as, if not more secure. It's easier to monitor and allow the same supporting environment as the one we have here.
As the site gets bigger and more and more people come here the board is bound to get bigger. If we carry on posting to our current forum we run the risk of over loading the server and losing everything! This would be a bad thing. While we are still relatively 'new' in forum speak - its important to move into this bigger better environment where we can all finally settle. 'Why start with the first one in the first place?' I hear you cry!! Well everyone has to start somewhere and this initial forum was good while it lasted, but any of you who are experienced in forum/chat worlds will know how limited the first HAVOCA Message Board was/is.
We will do things gently from here on in, so that things don't become too much of a shock to people.
Stage one will be encouraging people to join the new board - it's empty at the moment, so go and have a look around.
Stage two will be to slowly close down the first board.
- stop posting new messages now - please use the new forum (link will be on the frontpage of the HAVOCA site by tonight.
- by Monday (25 Oct) please stop posting replies to messages
We'll keep all the old messages so people will be able to come back and read previous posts indefinitely. If members want to cut and paste messages over to the new board they can do. I'm more than happy to answer questions on how to do this, or even do it for you.
Stage three will be to always direct you to the new board with a link back to the old one if required. Give it a week or two and you won't even notice the difference.
I am more than happy to take your questions.
I understand some people's concerns over this - but remember we are on your side! We know why you feel the way you do, but are confident that this is the right thing to do.
I look forward to seeing you all in the new forum.
So what have you got to lose? - this forum stays for people to read and we move into a new forum for better facilities (including live chat!!!etc.)
I know everyone was getting pretty comfy with the old forum, but i think we'll get used to the new one quickly enough. It's pretty cool! Plus we can chat!!! I have to get used to it too. So please forgive me if my fonts shout (have to admit, like our old smiley's), Play around with it!
