I've read about complex PTSD on another web site and recognise many of the symptoms. When I mentioned this to a nurse she said PTSD occurred due to one major event not multiple events of abuse. Don't they educate the health professionals? How can they treat me correctly unless they accept what they are dealing with? It's like walking into a brick wall.
What the nurse said was rubbish!!! I was diagnosed with PTSD 3 years ago!! orginally the cause was put down to my motorbike accident!
Last year I actually told my key worker about what had happened to me as a child!! And she agreed that I would most probably be suffering PTSD from that also!!
Yes they say it's usually from one major incident! but groups of incidents are just the same!! you suffer every incident whenever its the first or last!!! they are still traumatic and can cause PTSD!!! I'm fortunately an ex-servicewoman and can get proffesional treatment for PTSD!! but there is very few places in britain that treat it!!
the goverment will not accept that there is such a thing!! and deny all knowledge of it!! but as we(the suffers) now it is very real!! and more help should be available
Hi Ouch It sounds like she wasnt taking your enquiry very seriously- maybe she was having a tough day and didnt really think about what she was saying before she said it. Still, it's pretty insensitive and she should be more knowledgable about such things. I hope she wasnt one of the ones treating you. If so, I hope you get a different nurse soon! Lark
