Hi Jamie

Just recently have been aware of the ads at the top of each topic, and how they are reflecting some of the subject matter in the topic, for instance just reading about aunt who is celebrating 80th birhtday, and what are the adds all to do with 80th birthday.  They are starting to worry me as it is obvious that key words are being looked for in the postings in order to send us advertising. And some how it seems innappropriate on a message board such as this?

Is this deliberate?

Hi

Yes, I agree it is a very harsh way of advertising.  Unfortunately there is absolutely nothing we can do about it.  The board is free because we allow the hosts to place their advertisers details at the top of the page.  We can pay for the 'gold' option which is advertisement free - but that involves about £10/mnth.  It may not sound like much but coupled with our other runnning cost we can't justify spending anymore than absolutely necessary.

It's amazing how many people don't contribute to the running of HAVOCA.  I appreciate everyone is hard up, but the reality of it is if every member of the board contributed just £1/$2 then we could afford to run this board for a year.

Funding, or should I say the lack of it, is my biggest nightmare and could even be the end of HAVOCA eventually.  Lets hope it doesn't come to that.

All the best

Jamie

ps let me know if you have any fund raising ideas.  I once sent an email campaign asking 650 users of HAVOCA for a £1 donation.  We only received £70 and that was from three donars.  I can't seem to get the message across that this site doesn't run itself.  Of course I'm eternally grateful for all the donations (you know who you are!), but I still think just £1 is worth everything this site gives. HELP IF YOU CAN,.... ANYONE.
